Assistant/ Associate Professor in Metabolomics of Adaptive Responses

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate level in the area of metabolomics focusing on cellular and physiological responses. These positions are part of a major initiative in the area of metabolomics, as UCR seeks to hire five faculty in this research area in the next three years. The new faculty will build on UCR’s current strengths in: infectious disease; host-pathogen interactions; environmental toxicology; neuroscience, aging and neurodegeneration; stem cells in development and tissue repair; evolution of secondary metabolic pathways; medicinal plants; plant secondary metabolites and human health; as well as emerging research areas such as microbiomes, eco-metabolomics, and quantitative metabolomic imaging and downstream analyses.

Successful candidates will have an appointment in an appropriate department in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, School of Medicine, or Bourns College of Engineering where researchers are already working on the metabolomics of cellular signaling including chronic diseases (cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and metabolic), nutrition, mathematical and computational modeling, plant biology, and agriculture.

Successful candidates must possess an M.D. or Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral experience is preferred.  Candidates must demonstrate notable scientific contributions, evidenced by high quality peer-reviewed publications. Assistant-level applicants will be expected to set up an independent research program and must demonstrate the potential to secure extramural funding. Associate-level applicants are expected to have established research programs and a strong record of sustained extramural funding. All candidates should be able to demonstrate cutting-edge expertise in the development or application of metabolomics, including imaging, to biological signaling.

The successful candidate will have access to the state-of-the-art facilities in cores operated by the Institute of Integrative Genome Biology (IIGB), which includes the recently launched Metabolomics Core, as well as cores dedicated to bioinformatics, microscopy, proteomics, and sequencing. Epigenetic Regulation and Metabolic Control in Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a new academic-year faculty position at the Associate or Professor level. Leadership opportunities are available for the successful senior candidate who possesses excellent potential to develop into a leader in their field of research and who also can strengthen extramural funding in the department. This search is for an individual in any area of metabolomics, epigenetic regulation or metabolic control, with an emphasis on understanding epigenetic and metabolic control mechanisms in vivo and in vitro, and their roles in human diseases. Areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to) metabolomics, epigenetic and metabolic modifications in cancer, the intersection of metabolism and epigenetics, epigenetic or metabolic mechanisms in stem cell biology, mammalian development, and/or aging.

The position will build on existing campus strengths in genomics, epigenetics and biochemical regulation in model organisms and humans. Faculty expertise includes structural, molecular, and cellular biology, biochemical regulation of enzymatic activity, epigenetic and metabolic control by coregulators, regulation by non-coding RNAs, modification of chromatin structure, transcription regulation, and DNA repair in the context of metabolism, stem cell biology, cancer, neuroscience and aging.

The successful candidate will have a record of original research accomplishments in epigenetics or biochemical regulation. The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in the use of animal models, including genetically modified animals, to study biochemical and epigenetic mechanisms during normal development and/or in disease. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding and will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent, and internationally recognized research program at UCR that continues to attract extramural funding. The successful candidate will also develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in biochemistry and closely related disciplines, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and engage in university and extramural service activities. The candidate should possess potential or demonstrated ability to successfully work with and benefit a diverse student body.

Physical Biochemistry/Cryo-electron Microscopy (Associate/Full Professor Level)

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a new academic-year (9 month) faculty position at the tenured level of Associate Professor or Full Professor, in the general area of physical biochemistry, with a particular emphasis in the application of Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) to investigate problems of fundamental biological and biomedical importance. The position will build on existing campus strengths in structural biology and related areas of biophysics, including using X-ray crystallography, NMR, and single-molecule methods to study DNA repair, epigenetics, regulation of translation, cell signaling, computational methods appropriate to large datasets, virology, and molecular medicine. The University has committed to providing a new central campus cryo-EM facility and purchasing a “Glacios-class” cryo-EM instrument within the existing Central Facility for Advanced Microscopy and Microanalysis (CFAMM). The specific research focus is less important than finding an outstanding candidate with demonstrated leadership experience or excellent potential to develop this new technology on campus, and to be a leader in their field of research. Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent degree in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field; and a strong record of original research accomplishments funded by extramural support. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement those of existing Biochemistry faculty and strengthen campus strategic initiatives.
